Information about Certification Tests

Each randomly selected question on a test provides source material from another author and a sample of student writing. The test taker must determine whether the student version is word-for-word plagiarism, paraphrasing plagiarism, or not plagiarism. Many questions exemplify subtle forms of plagiarism which represent misunderstanding of plagiarism as defined here. carelessness, or sneaky plagiarism (see hints and patterns ).

Unlike classroom tests you have taken in school, Certification Tests do not provide specific feedback on questions answered incorrectly. This is done on purpose to make it harder to cheat by simply memorizing answers to questions. After the test, if you do not pass, you will receive feedback on the kinds of mistakes you have made. If you pass, your Certificate will be e-mailed to you, and you can view your Certificate for saving and printing.

If you take several tests, and do not pass, the outcome is very unlikely to change until you learn more about plagiarism.

Learn more through instruction on how to recognize plagiarism. You can view examples of different kinds of plagiarism with explanations, as well as patterns of plagiarism and non-plagiarism.

Practice identifying avoidance of plagiarism with specific feedback on why your answers are right or wrong. Take practice tests on identifying kinds of plagiarism where you get specific feedback on your results.
