The Baccalaureate Education System Trust (BEST) was created by the Tennessee General Assembly for the purpose of providing Tennessee

families with a means to save for their children's future college education costs.

As a Qualified Tuition Program under Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Code, withdrawals are federal income tax-free for college expenses such as tuition, books, some room and board expenses, and equipment and supplies required for attendance or enrollment at an eligible educational institution.

The Board for the Baccalaureate Education System Trust (BEST) recently convened to set the unit payout value for the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year. The new unit payout value is $88.48 from August 1, 2015 through July 31, 2016.  All units redeemed during this period will be paid out at the $88.48 per unit payout value, which is one percent of the Weighted Average Tuition (WAT) for the 2015-2016 academic year.
