Roughly, how many credits would it take to graduate college with a bachelor degree? (If it matters) a major in business and a minor in English or vise versa (if you can have that combination). I don't need any exact numbers, just an idea would be great! Also, how many credits do you (again, roughly) get. show more Roughly, how many credits would it take to graduate college with a bachelor degree? Best Answer: A typical bachelor's degree is 120 semester hours. Some will be as long as 150 semester hours but not many. So they're just about all between 120-150 semester hours. The 120 hour minimum is part of the definition of a bachelor's degree.
The typical class is 3
semester hours of credit which just means that it meets 3 hours per week for a semester. Some classes such as labs (sciences) and activities (PE, band, newspaper) are 1 semester hour credit but also meet three hours per week.
Some colleges combine the science class and its lab into a 4-5 credit hour combination, some colleges keep science class and science lab separate.
At three hours per course for 120 hours, you'd need roughly 40 courses. A full-time student takes 12-18 hours (4-6 courses) per semester. The typical/average number is 15 hours (5 courses) per semester.
With a 15 hour per semester class-load, a bachelor's degree of 120 hours would take exactly 8 semesters - which is four years - which is where we get the colloquial "4-year degree" reference for a bachelor's degree.
