How do i get a va loan
How Do I Get a Copy of My DD-214 for My VA Loan?
If you’re a veteran and you want to take advantage of your VA loan benefit, you’re not alone. Millions of American veterans have done the exact same thing you’re doing and they’ve reaped the benefits of a VA loan: saving a lot of money in many cases, avoiding a down payment or refinancing the entire value of their home, or just simply enjoying easier qualifying for your mortgage. Whatever your reason, the VA loan is one of the top benefits of military service and a benefit that you’ve earned.
That’s the good news. You’re all set to go and then you get the news – you need to provide a copy of your DD-214 to qualify for your VA. And you can’t find a copy. It happens. It happened to me.
There are no exceptions to this rule. It’s provide a DD-214 or don’t get a VA loan. Since
you don’t have a choice, you need to get a copy. How do you do that?
I went to the National Archives website and requested one. It was free and took about 10 days. A few months back, we did a VA loan Q&A Google Hangout with the VA, Military.com, and the National Association of Realtors, and John Bell of the VA recommended going to ebenefits.va.gov. There are also sites that claim to help you get your DD-214 faster for a fee. If any of you have ever used those services, let us know if you recommend them.
That’s it. Here’s the vid. As always, please let us know what you think. Any other ways our veterans can get a quick copy of their DD-214 (which is the gateway to pretty much all VA benefits, not just the VA loan), would be appreciated also.
