You can use a kb and mouse but thats only if the game supports it. Take COD4 for example. Does not support kb and mouse setup therefore it wont work.

You can get the Splitfish FragFX at JB Hi-Fi, or the XFPS Rateup adapter from wherever you can find one. Quantronics in Sydney still have a few SmartJoy Frags left. They're out of production now, as they were designed for the PlayStation 2. About $30 or so.
To get proper functionality with a PlayStation 3 you need to open up the SmartJoy Frag, clip off two little black voltage regulators, solder the gaps, and plug the SJF into a PS2-PS3 controller adapter.
I plugged a Logitech keyboard and mouse (PS/2 not USB) into the SJF,
then the SJF into a PlayStation 2 – PlayStation 2 controller adapter, in turn plugged into the front USB port of the PS3. A little tweaking required, but you can save your favourite keyboard layouts to the F-keys on the keyboard. It generally works very well.
I've played the following games on my PS3 using this setup:
- Resistance: Fall of Man
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
- Killzone 2
Killzone 2 is a little twitchy due to controller deadzone issues, but it works a lot better than playing it on thumbsticks.
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter was a total bust, didn't work well at all, as the controller inputs are very slow and you need to move the mouse miles to get any reticule movement.Source: forums.whirlpool.net.au
