Dana White: Conor McGregor tried to bet me $3 million he would knockout Chad Mendes at UFC 189
You certainly can't accuse Conor McGregor of being short on confidence.
That became evident after the smooth-talking Irishman tried to bet Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta $3 million that he would knockout Chad Mendes in round two of UFC 189 on July 11, 2015 .
White offered up the details of the proposed wager during his visit to the Jim Rome Show (via MMA Fighting ):
"You want to know how confident this kid is? I can't even believe I'm going to say this, but he told Lorenzo and I the other day, ‘I'll bet you $3 million I knock him out in the second round.'"
Of course, as much as White likes to gamble (evidence here ) the bet was not accepted, as fighters betting
with promoters is a big no-no in sports. Still, White says McGregor's willingness to do such a thing goes to show the world just how much confidence he carries around.
"I like to bet, I don't know if I'm that willing to take that bet. When I tell you how extremely confident this guy is in himself, it's fascinating. He is a very unique, fascinating person to listen to. Fun to listen to, and fun to watch."
A knockout may not come so easily for Conor, however, as Mendes has proven to be as tough as they come. Plus, the wrestling powerhouse has already promised to put "Notorious" on his back, repeatedly .
If that comes to pass, McGregor will likely have a hard time trying to generate enough stopping power from the ground to accomplish his goal.
If you had the coin to wager, would you take "Notorious" up on his bet?Source: www.mmamania.com
