Why was the stock market invented

What has caused share prices to fall 10 per cent in a month? Comments More than £46 billion was wiped off the stock market on Wednesday as fears over the health of the global economy caused the biggest dip in share prices for almost a year and a half. Related Articles 15 Oct 2014 2 America The world's biggest economy looks weaker than it did a few months ago. Poor retail figures and a slowdown in manufacturing have put it on the back foot. US retail sales declined 0. 3 per cent in September, marking the first fall in seven months. The Federal Reserve, America's central bank, may now have to wait longer to raise interest rates.

Why was the slave trade abolished

The 1807 Act and its effects Why the abolition of the Slave Trade and not Slavery? The members of the Society for the Abolition of the Slave Trade decided to concentrate on a campaign to persuade Parliament to prohibit the trading in slaves, for tactical reasons. They felt they were more likely to succeed, than if they demanded the abolition of slavery itself throughout the empire. They also believed that, if the trade was ceased, slavery would eventually wither away. Why did it take 20 years to abolish the trade? In the early years of the campaign, the abolitionists had great success in raising awareness and obtaining public support.

What was the Montauk monster?

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, or spending all your time on Tet Zoo, you will almost certainly have heard about the ‘Montauk monster’, a mysterious carcass that (apparently) washed up on July 13th at Montauk, Long Island, New York. A good photo of the carcass, showing it in right lateral view and without any reference for scale, surfaced on July 30th and has been all over the internet. Given that I only recently devoted a week of posts to sea monsters. it’s only fitting that I cover this too. I’m pretty sure that I know what it is, and I’m pleased to see that many other people have come to the same conclusions, as demonstrated by the many informed comments that appeared at Cryptomundo and elsewhere last week.

THEOI GREEK MYTHOLOGY & THE GODS

The Theoi Project profiles each deity and creature of Greek Mythology on a separate page, incorporating an encyclopedia summary, quotations from a wide selection of ancient Greek and Roman texts, and illustrations from ancient art. Analysis of the texts and interpretation of the stories of myth is currently beyond the scope of the project. For such detailed analysis, I would suggest consulting some of the good books available on the subject. Transliterated forms of Greek names are used throughout the biography pages of the site rather than their Latin forms, e.

Why Martin Luther King Was Republican

It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S’s: slavery, secession, segregation and now socialism. It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws.

Why was fair trade established

What do we do? The “Autograph Fair Trade Association” ( AFTAL ) was formed by a group of acknowledged autograph dealers, with the intention of stamping out the market in fake items and ensuring that the customer is able to find dealers that they can trust. Inclusion in AFTAL is proof of each dealer’s commitment and professional competence. The Code of Conduct commits each AFTAL approved dealer to providing authentic items, with all the required knowledge, qualification and diligence that that may demand, and is the best possible proof any collector could have when looking to buy authentic signed memorabilia.

Value Investing – Why You Fail?

Value Investing is a Treacherous Path to Walk Here is a riddle. Despite countless studies proving the superiority of value investing over growth or indexes, investors do not normally invest for value. Why is that? Don’t they want better performance and greater wealth? Christopher Browne of Tweedy, Browne in his presentation to the Columbia Business School (Nov 2000) talks about how most money managers and investors are conditioned to track the benchmarks because of the one very basic human fear. The fear of standing out from the herd. Browne also talks about various other behavioral tendencies people have that doom their aspirations to be a good value investor.
