How to compare health insurance policies
Where will you be living?
- ACT NSW NT QLD
The state or territory that the people covered by this policy will be living in most of the time.
How many adults will be covered by this policy?
Adults include all people over 18 years who live in the same household. Check with each fund for details.
Will any dependants be covered by this policy?
- No dependants *
- Children or Students
- Young adults (includes Children and Students)
A dependant child is a single person under the age of 18 years. A fund may consider someone between the age of 18 and 24 years old as a dependant if, for example, the person is a full-time student - check with the fund for details.
A young adult dependant is a single person between the ages of 18 and 24 years who is not considered a child according to the fund's rules - for example, if they are not a full time student. Funds may allow a young adult to be covered on the same policy as adults in exchange for a higher premium - check with the fund for details.
What type of policy suits you?
- Hospital *
- General treatment
Hospital policies cover your costs as a private patient in hospital, including hospital accommodation, medical treatment and (in some states) ambulance.
General treatment policies cover health services not covered by Medicare,
such as dental, optical, physiotherapy and naturopathy, and may also cover ambulance.
Obtaining cover for both Hospital and General treatment services has two options:
- A Combined policy from a single insurer, or
- you can choose one Hospital policy plus one General treatment policy, from the same insurer or even two different insurers.
