How You Can Contact Medicare and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
If you need help with a Medicare-related issue or you want to check on a specific status (such as a claim or deductible), there are several ways to contact Medicare. You can call them any time at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) TTY users can call 1-877-486-2048.
Customer service representatives are available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, although you can check the status on your most recent claims without speaking to a live agent. Have your Medicare number ready if you wish to:
- Check the status of your claims.
- Get your current deductible status.
- Listen to your current prescription drug plan enrollment.
- Get more help with your Medicare questions.
- Order Medicare publications (large print, Spanish, audio-tape, and braille).
You may wish to have someone, like a spouse or caregiver, contact Medicare on your behalf. If you would like grant this
authorization to someone, you must first fill out a Medicare Authorization to Disclose Personal Health Information form before they are able to contact 1-800-MEDICARE on your behalf.
You may also wish to create an account at MyMedicare.gov to have a “hub” for all of your personalized Medicare information. This can be used to view benefits and claims information and receive additional information on your Medicare providers. It may help to answer some questions without having to contact Medicare directly, as well as serving as a good resource with a personal touch.
