A message from TCHRMA Certification Representative
As certification representative, my job is to educate, inform, and encourage our members about PHR, SPHR, and GPHR certification.
Why certification? How will it benefit me, and how can I obtain it?
Obtaining certification shows that one has mastered the human resources body of knowledge and through recertification that one has made a decision to keep up with new developments in the profession. In today's world, when looking for candidates for human resource positions, employers prefer or require candidates to have certification.
If you're an HR professional interested in becoming certified or a student interested in pursuing a career in human resources and would like to take the exam, you can gain your certification by successfully passing the examination. To find out more, please click here to be taken to the web site of the Human Resource Certification Institute. It contains current information about the exam such as how to apply, eligibility requirements, test content, testing centers and
fees. It also includes two freewebcasts about certification and recertification; click on "About HRCI" and then "In the News" to reach these webcasts. TCHRMA also offers use of its Learning System modules to members free of charge—just see me. Many TCHRMA members also study for the exam at the same time; come to meetings to find out who is also taking the exam and may serve as a study partner! Let me know when you're coming, so I can make an announcement for you.
How do I renew my PHR, SPHR, or GPHR certification?
Please click here to access recertification basics at HRCI, or view their web site. Please note that continuing education credits (such as those offered at our monthly chapter meetings or through SHRM's e-Learning program ) and serving the HR community—for instance, by volunteering to serve on our board can go a long way toward your recertification!
