ADR Driver Training
An ADR Vocational Training Certificate is required by any driver carrying "In-Scope" packaged Dangerous Goods, for a tanker of >1m 3 or tank container of >3m 3 - regardless of the gross weight of the carrying vehicle, and is valid for five years. There is no required pre-qualification, anyone with a full UK driving licence may attend. In order to obtain your Vocational Training Certificate (VTC) you must attain the following minimum qualification:
CORE + PACKAGES or TANKS + at least ONE HAZARD CLASS
Once obtained, additional classes or modes of carriage can be added at a later date if required.
The initial course is held over three-and-a-half days for goods in Packages, or five days if goods in Tanks are also required (The tankers module can be taken as an individual one-and-a-half day course). Refresher courses all run over three days. Explosives and Radioactives courses for one day if it is added to an existing qualification, or two-and-a-half if it is the only entitlement required. Explosives and Radioactive courses are arranged as they are required, on a day most convenient
for the candidates, usually on a Saturday.
Should a driver only ever carry one class of Dangerous Goods (e.g. a petrol tanker driver), they can, if wished, be taught only that class, together with the Core and Packages/Tanks modules. We will conduct any of the permitted course combinations, as both initial and refresher courses.
