Unemployment insurance provides temporary financial assistance for people who have lost their jobs, through no fault of their own, until they find other employment. South Dakota's unemployment insurance program is financed by employers through payroll taxes; workers do not contribute to this plan.

Unemployment Insurance (UI) services are provided through the following sections:

UI Benefits - Individuals file a claim, weekly certification or an appeal.

New Hire Reporting Center -

Employers report newly hired employees as required by law. Phone: toll-free at 888.827.6078 or locally in Aberdeen at 605.626.2942

UI Benefits Appeals - South Dakota law provides an appeal process for workers or employers who disagree with a decision on a UI claim. These claims are resolved through the judicial process. Phone: 605.626.2310
