LASMI engages Three new Microfinance Banks for partnership.

After a thorough discussion with interested qualified microfinance banks, and in a bid to spread the benefits of the Lagos State Government's Micro Finance Scheme, the Lagos State Micro Finance Institution has successfully finalise the engagement of three new Micro Finance Banks for partnership.
This arrangement now brings to eight (8) the total number of microfinance banks partnering with the Lagos State Government through LASMI to help spread the benefit of the Lagos State Microfinance Scheme through-out nooks and cranes of the state. The new microfinance banks have since been empowered with funds to carry out this functions.

In a bid to spread the benefits of the Lagos State Government's Micro Finance Scheme, the Lagos State Micro Finance Institution is considering new Micro Finance Banks for partnership.
Talks are on between the Institution and the officials of the yet to be considered banks. It will be recall that five (5) banks are already working with LASMI in order to achieve the main objective of the Lagos State Government on this scheme.

On the 18th of September 2008, the Lagos State Government through its Micro Finance Scheme which was launched recently by His Excellency, Gov. Babtunde Fashola presented cheques to 5,000 Lagosians in various business sectors.
The 5,000 beneficiaries who applied for the credit facility through their
banks (micro finance banks) were given the cheques for the purpose of assisting them finance their businesses in order for them to create more wealth for themselves and their families.
Speaking at the event, Gov. Fashola expressed happiness in his government's ability to assist Lagosians through the micro finance scheme which he said was launched to reduce and gradually eradicate poverty in the state.
The Governor declared “Today, as we have done with our beautification projects, road construction, Corporate Cabs, Bus Rapid Transit, Highway Managers where thousands of jobs have been created and sustained, we create 5,000 new entrepreneurs who will from today also employ others. Today 5,000 people have severed the shackles that bound them with poverty. Today, the dignity and pride of 5,000 people and several thousands that they will employ is restored forever. Today, 5,000 people have the opportunity to take their destiny in their own hands and to affect positively several thousands of potential employees”.
In his remarks, Chairman of LASMI, Bashorun S. Alabi-Macfoy, thanked Governor Fashola for keeping his promise of providing new jobs, noting that all the beneficiaries under the Lagos State Micro Finance Scheme would be gainfully employed and would also be employers of labour. According to the Chairman, “the Scheme is a continuous process designed to alleviate poverty which unfortunately is not created by the poor but the system”, adding that Lagos State being number one State in the country, had taken the initiative through partnership with microfinance banks to put in motion a system that would eradicate poverty in the State.
