Summary of Event: The Inclusive Microfinance Conference is intended to bring together representatives of policy makers, organizations serving disabled persons, academia, development organizations, and financial service providers, among others, to present research and innovations in the field of disability and financial inclusion.
Background on Organizers: The Association of Microfinance Institutions of Uganda (AMFIU) is an umbrella organization for 124 microfinance organizations in Uganda. It was founded in 1996 with the goal of cohesively lobbying the government and creating a network of both local and international organizations in the field. The National Union
of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) is an NGO that was founded in 1987 with the mission of integrating persons with disabilities (PWDs) into mainstream society through influencing legislation and providing better access to information and infrastructure. The Norwegian Association of Disabled (NAD) is a Norwary-based organization that promotes the inclusion of PWDs through networking, organizational development and community-based rehabilitation. NAD has projects in Lesotho, Malawi, Palestine, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia as well as in refugee camps in Jordan and Lebanon.
