Devine said taxpayers can check on the status of their refunds seven days after they were e-filed, or four weeks after they were mailed. "In some circumstances, you may not receive your refund as quickly as expected," Devine said. He explained refund delays can be caused by a variety of reasons. For example, a name and Social Security number listed on the tax return may not match the IRS records, the return was not signed, attachments were missing, or there were math errors that require extra time for the IRS to correct.
